Visa Appointment Booking: How to Prepare for the Day
Many countries ask applicants to visit a visa application centre or embassy in person, for biometrics (fingerprints and photo), document submission or an interview. A well-prepared appointment saves time and avoids a second visit.
1. Book the right slot early
Appointment availability can be limited, especially before holidays and peak travel seasons. Book as soon as your application form is complete, and choose the correct centre for your city and visa category.
2. Check what the appointment is for
- Biometrics: fingerprints and a digital photograph
- Document submission: handing over your passport and supporting documents
- Interview: a short conversation with a consular officer about your trip
3. Carry the right documents
- Appointment confirmation letter
- Original passport and old passports, if requested
- Completed application form and fee receipt
- Supporting documents in the order given in the checklist
Keep originals and photocopies separately, and follow the centre’s rules about bags and electronic devices.
4. Arrive on time
Reach the centre around 15 minutes before your slot. Late arrivals may need to rebook. Dress neatly, especially if an interview or photograph is involved.
5. For interviews, keep it simple and honest
Answer clearly about your purpose of travel, dates, who you will meet and how the trip is funded. Your answers should match the information in your application.
How APEX can help
