Visa Guidance: Choosing the Right Visa for Your Trip
The first and most important step of any international trip is applying for the right visa. Applying under the wrong category is one of the most common reasons for delays and refusals, even when every document is in order.
1. Match the visa to your purpose
- Tourist visa: holidays, sightseeing and short leisure trips
- Business visa: meetings, conferences, trade fairs, supplier and factory visits
- Visit / family visa: visiting relatives or friends who live abroad
- Transit visa: passing through a country on the way to another destination, where required
If your trip has more than one purpose, for example a business meeting followed by a few days of sightseeing, ask which category applies before you apply.
2. Check single or multiple entry
Some visas allow only one entry, while others allow you to enter several times during their validity. If you plan side trips to nearby countries, or regular business visits, a multiple-entry visa may suit you better where it is available.
3. Understand validity and length of stay
Visa validity (how long the visa can be used) is different from the permitted stay (how many days you can remain each visit). Read both carefully and plan your return date within the allowed stay.
4. Read the requirements for your profile
Requirements often differ for salaried employees, business owners, students, retired travellers and minors. Financial documents, invitation letters and travel history can all play a role in the decision.
5. Apply early
Processing times change with seasons and holidays. Starting early gives you time to collect documents, book an appointment if needed and handle any additional request from the authority.
